About the Challenge

A national platform for engineering the deep ocean

Technothon 2026 is a single-edition national innovation competition organised by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

Our mandate

India's Deep Ocean Mission is a flagship programme aimed at exploring and sustainably utilising the resources of the deep sea in the Indian deep ocean and beyond. Technothon 2026 promotes development of innovative ideas from the country's brightest researchers and innovators to address the engineering, environmental, and operational problems that this mission entails.

Organiser

The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, is an autonomous R&D institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, established to develop reliable indigenous technology to solve engineering problems associated with the harvesting of non-living and living resources in the Indian deep ocean.
